Samuel Lloyd Peterson, 56, of Tyler, went to be with Jesus on December 2, 2019, in Tyler, Texas. He was born June 18, 1963, in Phelps County, Missouri, to the late Lloyd H. Peterson and Louise J. Helms.
Funeral services for Sam will be 1:00 pm, Friday, December 6, 2019, at Tyler Christian Fellowship Church with Reverends Joe Canal and Bill Vickery officiating.
Sam graduated from Hallsville High School Missouri and received his master’s degree at the University of Missouri. He worked for the University of Missouri, University of Key West and Jarvis Christian College. He was an avid wood worker who loved to carve. Sam loved working on his 1977 Corvette. He was a member of Tyler Christian Fellowship Church in Tyler.
He is preceded in death by parents.
He is survived by his wife of one year, Melissa Vickery Peterson of Tyler; sons, Kyle Peterson of St. Louis, MO, Alex Peterson and wife Madison of Columbia, MO; daughter, Isabelle Peterson of Columbia, MO; stepsons, Matthew Beets and Charlie Au of Dallas, Noah Beets of Tyler; stepdaughter, Bethany Mendoza and husband David of Tyler; sisters, Becky Shaieb of Frisco, Jane Tannous and husband Nick of Houston, Debbie Peterson of North Hollywood, CA; brother, Jeff Peterson and wife April of Dripping Springs; father and mother-in-law, Rev. Bill Vickery and Betty Vickery of Tyler; brother-in-law, Jason Vickery and wife Sarah of Cincinnati, OH; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Special thanks to my dearest friend (my person) Sherry Harden, thanks for always being there for Sam and I, I will always cherish our friendship and you being there to hold my hand when I lost my sweet Sam, and to Van Goodall for driving for hours to go visit Sam, it meant a lot to him.
The family would like to thank all those who were a part of Sam’s life, especially the nurses and doctors who showed such compassion and kindness during Sam’s final journey of life, Neuro Restorative Rehabilitation, The Center at Grande, Christus Rehabilitation and to the Hospice of East Texas.
