Billie Jean Herring Dodson, 81, of Overton Texas, went home to the Lord Saturday, December 2, 2023.
She was born August 25, 1942, in Overton, Texas where she lived her life until graduating from Overton
High School. She worked as an IBM data punch card specialist in Shreveport, Louisiana where she met
and later married Kenneth Dodson in March 1977. Ken was the love of her life, and they enjoyed
building their lives together until his return to the Lord in 2012.
She loved singing in the choir and at the nursing homes in Overton & New London. She loved ceramics,
sewing, and crocheting. She was a loving daughter, wife, sister & friend to absolutely everyone she
knew. All who encountered her would come away a better person because of her optimism, faith, and
love of life. Even during her illness, she would lift others up, instead of thinking about herself. She will be
missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Pearl Herring, and brothers John and Fred Herring.
She is survived by nephews Pat and Mike Herring, and her adopted family Blake, Sherri, Aaron Pirtle,
and Heather Pirtle LaBorde; as well as lifelong friend Martha Lutringer.
Visitation is at 1:00 followed by the funeral at 2:00 Saturday, December 9 at Cottle Pearson Funeral
Home, Overton, Texas.
