Cliff Andrew Johnson
September 12, 1955 – September 19, 2021
Loving Husband, Devoted Dad, Happy Pappy, Sweet Brother, Uncle Cliff, C0-Worker, and Friend were many of the names for Cliff Johnson.
Cliff was born September 12, 1955, to Ted and Helen Johnson, he grew up with his older sister, Debra, and younger sister, Sherri. He graduated from Troup High School where he met Ava Oakes. They married on January 8, 1977, at FUMC in Troup, Texas. God blessed Cliff and Ava with three amazing sons, Coy Anthony, Clint Andrew, and Cody Alan. Cliff was an involved Dad. He was a cub master for the Boy Scout Troup. He worked with the Troup Youth Association for over 25 years starting coaching with Chuck and Steven, his brothers-in-law. He loved baseball and working with kids. He worked with and was a long-time President of the Troup Athletic Booster Club.
Cliff also retired from the United States Postal Service as a rural letter carrier in July of 2019.
Cliff loved the Lord. He attended Martin’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene in Concord. He used his time and money to help those in need. He was slow to speak and didn’t offer advice readily. In all dealings, he tried to speak with a gentle tongue especially with his sons, his nephews, Jarod Oakes, Heath Oakes, and Michael Dillon, and his niece, Lorinda Fields.
Cliff’s love for his family knew no bounds. No doubt he was very proud of his sons and his two daughters-in-love that he adored. Brittany, Coy’s wife, and Jessica, Cody’s wife, fought for him tirelessly protecting him until he drew his last breath on Sunday, September 19, 2021.
Then the Lord laid another layer of love to Cliff’s life with his seven grandchildren, Avery, Alexa, Brynlee, Cyla, Sam, Baylor, and Caydee. Any time he could spend with these angels were his best days. “Pappy” Cliff loved and was loved.
Cliff was preceded in death by his father Ted Johnson, his in-laws Charles and Myrna Oakes, his brother-in-law Chuck Oakes, and three of his grandbabies. He is survived by his loving family, his wife Ava Johnson of Troup, Texas, Coy and Brittany Johnson and children Avery and Sam of Forney, Texas, Clint Johnson of Flint, Texas, Cody and Jessica Johnson and daughter Alexa of Troup, Texas, brother-in-law and wife Steven and Angie Oakes of Troup, Texas, Sherrie and Bodie Hitt of Murchison, Texas, 10 nieces and nephews, 10 great-nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great nieces and nephews, and an amazing host of friends.
