David Sanford Obituary

David Max Sanford of Troup, Texas, stepped into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 22, 2022, at the age of 63.  He was born on April 30, 1958, to Marilyn Davis (nee Rusk) and Max Sanford.

Visitation for David’s family and friends will be held from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Branded by Christ Cowboy Church, Rusk, Texas, with funeral services at 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 26, 2022.  Pastors Mike Blumn, Danny Brey, and Mark Norman will officiate with special music by Randy Reeves.  Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery in Troup.

David grew up in Sheldon, Texas, and graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in 1976.  Afterwards, work brought him to Tyler, Texas, where he met and married Connie Lloyd on October 28, 1979.  David graduated from Kilgore College magna cum laude with a degree in Diesel Mechanics.  He worked in the logging industry for several years before purchasing and operating a field service truck for heavy equipment.

As his children grew up, David poured into their lives as they tackled a myriad of extra-curricular activities in sports and agriculture.  He especially enjoyed the time spent at ball games and stock shows.

David surrendered his life to the Lord in 2005 at Cross Brand Cowboy Church, Tyler, where he served on the Facility Team and as a part of the Outsiders Team spreading the gospel with black powder and faith-filled messages.  Later, as a lay pastor, David was asked to fill in for preachers in other churches as the need arose which led him to pursue a Certificate of Ministry from Truett Seminary.  He next served as a lay pastor at Triple S Cowboy Church, Palestine, before being called as the pastor of Branded by Christ Cowboy Church, Rusk, in October 2014.  During his ministry, he witnessed some amazing works of God.  David had a strong passion for the cowboy church movement and poured into many leaders, especially pastors, across the country.

David was preceded in death by both parents and stepparents, Barbara Sanford and Marvin Davis.  He leaves here to cherish his memory his wife of 42 years, Connie, his son, Nathan Sanford (Kristin), daughters, Jana Samples (Blake), Casey Worl (Jett), Amanda Jennings (Joe Bob), and Rachel Jiles (James); and treasured grandchildren Karissa, Cheyenne, Skylar, Kasen, Kamdyn, Channing, Audree, Kinlee, Jaxon, Dallie, Emilee, Tinslee and Maelee; his brother, Rink (Amy) Sanford; sister, Vicki (Terry) Dailey and many other family and friends.
