Debbie Carol Howes Barnes Rhodes, of Overton, Texas, passed away on July 3, 2025, in Overton, Texas. She was born on February 11, 1950, in Overton, Texas, to the late Mary Howes Gregg and Raymond Howes.
Memorial services for Debbie Carol Howes Barnes Rhodes will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton, Texas. Visitation for family and friends will be held at 2 pm prior to the service.
Debbie, retired from Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center – Overton in January 2012. She was a cherished member of her community and was known for her kind heart and gentle soul. She found peace and happiness outdoors, often working in her yard or simply enjoying the view from her swing. She especially loved visiting local farmers markets and never passed up the chance to bring home fresh tomatoes and Noonday onions.
Debbie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who deeply loved her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched—especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and pride. Her warmth, compassion, and quiet strength will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her son, Rick Barnes and wife Tammy of Overton, Texas; her daughter, Terri Schochler and husband Chad of Overton, Texas; grandchildren: Johnathan Richmond and wife Sarah of Troup, Texas, Amanda Richmond of Troup, Texas, Makayla Moser of Overton, Texas, Mason Barnes and wife Eva of Longview, Texas, Christen Villareal (Christina) of San Antonio, Texas, and Bailey Burney (Chance) of Gilmer, Texas; along with numerous beloved great-grandchildren.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Howes Gregg and Raymond Howes; her husbands, Terry Barnes and Jimmy Rhodes; and her, son, Chris Barnes, and brothers Johnny Howes, and Mike Howes.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton, Texas.
