Delbert "Nub" Mason

Delbert “Nub” Mason passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at his home in Chapel Hill, with his beloved wife by his side. He was 86 years old.

Nub was born on January 17, 1939, in Smith County, Texas, to Alfred and Maria Mason. A proud East Texan through and through, he spent his early years building a life rooted in hard work, family, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

He dedicated many years of his career to Eastman before retiring from Howe-Baker Engineers. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication, Mr. Mason was respected by colleagues and friends alike. Outside of work, he was an avid fisherman and hunter—passions that brought him joy, peace, and countless stories shared with those he loved.

Nub is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Joyce Mason; his daughter, Vicki Maddox (Ernie); and his stepson, Dave Williams (Dena). He also leaves behind his sisters: Jane Waldron, Darlene Sheppard, and Nancy Skillern (Mike); as well as grandchildren: Chris Terry, Korey Terry, Katelyn Phillips (Marshall), Taylor Maddox, Mason Maddox, Gunner Mason, Rachel Batie (Lane), and Gabby Williams. He was blessed with three great-grandchildren and held a special bond with his cousin, Alisha Holmes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Maria Mason; his son, Blake Mason; his stepdaughter, Alison Terry; and two brothers-in-law.

Nub will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love for his family, and his unwavering appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Funeral services will be at 11 am on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Cottle Pearson Funeral Home Chapel, in Overton, Texas. Visitation will from 10 to 11 am prior to the service. Interment will be at Mason Cemetery, in Arp, Texas, immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nub’s memory to Hospice of Enhabit Hospice in Tyler, whose care and compassion were a comfort in his final days.
