Dorothy Satterwhite Obituary

Dorothy Satterwhite peacefully passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior July 27, 2024.  She was born July 19, 1932 to John R. Heath and Martha Fagg Heath.  She grew up in Jacksonville and met Daniel Satterwhite when she was working in Rusk, Texas.  She and Dan were married in August, 1949 and celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary prior to his death in 2003.  Dorothy lived in Troup 53 years before moving to Tyler in 2005.

Dorothy was an aide at Troup Public Schools, serving as the Elementary Librarian for 23 years.  She had a great affection for books of all kinds and loved reading.  After retiring, she was the church librarian for many years at First Baptist Church in Troup, where she was a member for over 50 years.

Dorothy loved the Lord and read her Bible daily.  She had the gift of developing lasting friendships.  She was totally selfless at heart, always concerned about others’ needs more than her own. She liked crafting with her friends and liked to play domino and card games with her friends and family.  She loved parties and loved having friends and neighbors visit her at home.  The day before she passed she wanted to plan a party and “have fried chicken and get balloons”.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband and her parents; and brother, Henry Heath.  She is survived by her children, David Satterwhite and wife Pat, Mark Satterwhite, Susan Ellis and husband Scott; grandchildren Amy Camp, Jenny Satterwhite, Spenser Ellis, Ben Satterwhite, and Sarah Cantrell; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation is Wednesday, 5:00 to 7:00 at Cottle Funeral Home in Troup.   Graveside service will be 11:00 Thursday at Fenton Cemetery in Cushing, with Brother Ray Bratcher officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Book Project of Smith County Retired Teachers and School Personnel Association (SCRTSPA).
