Evelyn (Ledford) Martin

April 28, 1933 ~ September 15, 2023 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Obituary

Evelyn entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on September 15, 2023. She was born in Cherokee County on April 28,1933 to Reagan and Lona (Julie) Martin Ledford. Growing up in the Concord community she was surrounded by her close-knit family whom she loved.

Evelyn graduated from Troup High School in 1951. She married Clay Allen Martin on December 24, 1951. Clay and Evelyn were married for over 44 years: Together they had four children; Keith, Stan, Jyl, and Melanie. Clay Allen had heart disease and Evelyn was at his side through 23 years of doctor visits, surgeries and long hospital stays.

When Evelyn’s children were older, she began working outside the home. She worked at Troup Dress Factory, in the fabric department at Gibson’s and at Esther’s Fine Fabrics. She made friends wherever she went.

Evelyn had a strong faith. She worshipped and served the Lord at the First Methodist Church in Troup. Evelyn was a member of First Methodist for many years. She loved her Sunday School class and served on the Hospitality Committee. She also was an avid walker and loved to play Mahjong with her friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, as well as her sister, Bobbie Reynolds, and her brothers Pete and Roy Ledford. Evelyn leaves her sister, Nell Mitchell, and brother, Buster Ledford. She is survived by her children; Keith Martin and wife Deborah, Stan Martin and wife Mary, Jyl Weeks and husband Donald, Melanie Johnson and husband Johnny. She is also survived by the grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Kimberly Rittimann, Elizabeth Martin, Clay Martin, Britt Martin, Joshua Weeks, Chase Weeks, Meagan Pyle, Jake Johnson, and Jenna Quinney. Evelyn has a great legacy leaving fifteen great-grandchildren; Abigail, Korbin, Madelyn, Austin, Brooks, Case, Avery, Jordan, Ben, Audrey, Henry, Norah, Zackary, John and Jack who will arrive in December.

The family would like to thank Marshall Hospice for their loving care of our mother in her last days. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to First Methodist Church, Troup, or the church of your choice.

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30
