Freddie Crumpler

Freddie Crumpler, 81, of Overton, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on December 22, 2025, leaving his family with full hearts, a thousand borrowed sayings, and more stories than could ever fit into one room.

Funeral services for Freddie Crumpler will be held at First Baptist Church, 206 N Rusk St, Overton, Texas, at 2 pm on December 26, 2025. There will be a visitation hour at 1 pm, prior to the service. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery outside New London, Texas.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, he never made a big show of his service, but he lived every day like a man still on duty—steady, reliable, and always ready to help the next person or his community. He spoke his love in actions, in a lifetime of quiet service to others.

Born on June 7, 1944, in Paducah, Texas, Freddie learned early how to work hard, keep his word, and the value of family. After serving in the Army, he carried those same values of discipline, loyalty, and integrity into his work, his community, and most of all, his family.

Freddie was a big fan of a good western movie and a gifted storyteller, able to turn the simplest moment into a tale that left everyone smiling and a little bit wiser. His laugh filled every room, and his many “Freddie-isms” became part of the family’s language, short phrases that somehow managed to be life lessons disguised as one‑liners. Those “Freddie-isms” will become the exact advice or encouragement his family will need to hold on to as they navigate this incredible loss.

He taught his kids how to do just about everything: how to fix things, how to tell a good story or a good joke, how to show up on time, how to work hard without complaining, and how to treat people with respect. More importantly, he showed them how to be the kind of person others could count on, the kind who shows up early, stays late, and does the small things that matter most without needing a spotlight. More than anything, he showed them, by example, that a good life is measured not in grand gestures but in everyday acts of kindness and reliability.

Freddie is survived by his wife Donna K. Crumpler, his children Tavia (Darla) Crumpler, Shayne (Rachele) Crumpler, and grandchildren Tucker (Isabella) Crumpler and Landry Crumpler, stepchildren Mike (Robin) Rogers, Steve Lee, and Marisa Lee, and siblings Freida (Jerry) Reed and Hollis Crumpler. Freddie was surrounded by a vast extended family that included many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and grands that adored their pops, paw-paw, and big paw-paw. They will keep his stories and lessons alive, share his “Freddie‑isms” at all the right (and wrong) moments, and try their best to live up to the standard he set. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Albert and Rena Crumpler, brothers, John, Bobby, Eugene, Glen, and Iris Ray and sisters Cora and Dorothy, who surely greeted him with a smile and a story of their own. Visitation from 1-2pm and a service in his honor from 2-3p will be held on December 26, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 206 N. Rusk St., Overton, Texas with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, where his life of service—will be remembered with gratitude, laughter, and love. “Take care of yourself buddy, love you.”
