George Richard Davis, Jr.

The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death. – Isaiah 57:1,2 –

With much grief and joy, we announce that George Richard Davis Jr., 67, born February 20, 1957, passed on from this temporal life to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in his home in Overton, Texas while surrounded by his wife and children on June 12, 2024.

We grieve because we will miss him greatly with his measure of likeness to his Savior’s self-control, kindness, wisdom, patience, and love of others. He was a hard-working man with great perseverance and ability to find a solution to any problem he set his mind to. He loved his friends and family well, and his Savior even more. He enjoyed the life he was given greatly, teaching his children how to learn things both hands on and through reading. He spent many summers having fun towing his family members and friends behind a boat on the family pond, then going to various four-wheeler parks with family, friends, and church members, and later taking trips on motorcycle rides with the same. He loved to assemble with his brothers and sisters in Christ at his local church to worship his Lord, and he loved to plant and grow food with his wife, Tanya. He ran businesses like his father before him, repairing cooling towers, making fiberglass pipes, and running a machine shop. He loved his customers too and expressed regret at having to leave them without his services.

We have joy in his passing because we know he will no longer suffer from the pains of the cancer that took him, or the evils of this world which Isaiah spoke of in the passage above. We that share his trust in the salvation from condemnation provided for by the cross of Jesus know that our hope is not in this temporal life only but transcends it. For in our mortal flesh “we groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.” “When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” – 1 Corinthians 15:54,55 – Although lightning and peels of thunder come from the throne of God, George is now standing on the emerald sea of glass of perfect peace in the presence of God beholding His glory with perfect clarity.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Davis Sr. and his grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife of 7 years, Tanya; mother, Jean; brother and sister, Bob and Gayle; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jeannie and Robert; former wife, Darlene; sons and their wives George IV and Stephanie, Cody and Lindsey, and Josh, Anthony and Holly, Nicholas and Michelle, Jonathan, Adrian and Kara; grandchildren, Stella, Joshua, Dean, Alexa, Conner, Carston, Kimber, Tessa, Kaleb, Kannon, Dagger, Chloe, Cason, Raegan, Nolan, Jordyn, Asher, Bristol, and Tristen; and many other nieces, nephews, family, and friends he loved dearly.

A memorial service and celebration of George’s life will be held at his church, The Father’s House, in Joinerville, TX on Thursday, July 11, 2024. The address will be at the bottom for your reference. There will be fellowship in the sanctuary at 5:00 pm, memorial in the sanctuary at 6:00 pm, and a pot-luck dinner in the fellowship hall afterward. If you have read this far, don’t stop here. George would want you to take his life to heart by being humble to know that this life is fleeting and to recognize your own inherent sinfulness. You readily admit you are not perfect. Where does that leave you before a just and Holy God, whom we all shall stand before after this life? My friend, it leaves you in need of a perfect substitute to take the punishment of your sinfulness for you and count His own righteousness to you through faith. Trust in Jesus Christ who willingly went to the cross to absorb the offense of your sinfulness so that you may be reconciled to God. Repent and believe so that you too may share in the satisfaction and joy George has had and now has all the more in God! A passage he held near and dear to his heart was this: “And we know that all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” – Romans 8:28 – Consider that George’s passing may be a means of the grace of God to you; to call you to repentance and belief in the promises of God.
