In Loving Memory: George Alfred Matheny
George Matheny was born October 28, 1943, in Louisiana, peacefully departed from
this world on June 11, 2023, in Henderson, Texas. He was 79 years old at the time of
his passing.
George was a beloved spouse, father, and friend who touched the lives of all
who knew him. He possessed a vibrant spirit and a kind heart that brought joy and
comfort to those around him.
George will be remembered for being a Master Gardener. He loved his colorful and
abundant garden. There was nothing he could not grow. Some said he could grow
watermelons on concrete.
Throughout his life, George was known for his dedication to his family and friends. He
had an infectious laugh that filled every room, and his positive outlook on life was an
inspiration to all.
George leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He will be deeply
missed by his wife, Charlene McLeod, his 5 children and 2 stepchildren and Bonus Son. George had Four Siblings.
His children include Gina Jones and her husband Aaron, Connie Dunklin and her
husband John, Eddie Matheny and his wife Stacey, Jimmie Diane Alfred, and her
husband Dustin Jones, and Rebecca Strickland and her husband Alex. Stepchildren
include Angela Jones and Amanda McLeod, and Bonus Son and his wife, David and
Fayette Matheny. Brother, Tommy Matheny, and Sister, Sue Skelton. He also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will
continue to carry his memory in their hearts.
He is preceded in death by His Brothers Ray Matheny and Dowell Matheny.
The loss of George leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will live on
through the stories shared and the lives he touched. May we find solace in the
knowledge that he has found eternal peace.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Georges life will be held on June 24, 2023,
at Gum Springs Baptist church at 2:00 p.m. Friends, family, and acquaintances are
invited to attend and pay their respects.
As we mourn the loss of George, let us also remember to celebrate the incredible life he
lived. May he rest in eternal peace, forever in our hearts.
