Grady Wayne Rhodes, 71, of Kilgore, Texas passed away on November 6, 2020. He was born February 10, 1949 in Kilgore, Texas. Grady grew up in Kilgore where he attended school and proved to be a star baseball player. He graduated from Kilgore High School in 1967 and went to college on a baseball scholarship to Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He graduated with a degree in psychology from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. He worked for the Department of Human Services as a child protective services caseworker, a supervisor, and a systems analyst. After retirement, he worked doing home studies for foster and adoptive children and started his own oilfield hotshot trucking business with a childhood friend. He was a Mason with Milam Lodge #2 in Nacogdoches.
He is survived by his mother, Janice Rhodes of Kilgore; his sister, Donna Rhodes of Kilgore; his daughter Christy Dees and husband Lance of Nacogdoches; his granddaughter Lauren Wheeler and grandsons Hunter and Riley Dees of Nacogdoches. He is also survived by nieces Lee Ann Manker, Emily Manker, and Shelly Simmons and husband Steven; and nephews Chase and Charlene Maxwell and Wayne Maxwell as well as numerous grand nieces and nephews and life-long friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Joe Rhodes, his sister Debbie Manker, and his grandparents Grady and Buna Suttles and Benjamin (Tuck) and Bobbie Rhodes, and his uncle Jack Suttles.
Grady wanted to be cremated and have his ashes spread on the lakes he loved fishing - Stryker, Murvaul and Cherokee. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 20, 2020 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton
