James (Jimmy) Patrick Lowe, 72, of Arp, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on October 18, 2023. Born on July 13, 1951, in Fort Worth, Texas, Jimmy was a kind, generous, and soft-spoken individual with a dry sense of humor who touched the lives of many.
Jimmy was a beloved son, father, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his mother, Jean Lowe; daughter, Jennifer Lowe; sister, Cathy Lowe; brothers, Chris, Bryan and Aaron Lowe; nephews, Jason and Michael Lowe; nieces, Melissa Smith and Brandy Kral; great nephews, Calob Smith, Carson Kral, and Jacob Lowe; and great nieces, Cailey Smith and Madison Merritt. He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Weldon Lowe.
Jimmy graduated from Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth in 1969, where he excelled in the ROTC program, serving as All City Colonel his senior year. He was also a member of the award-winning drill and rifle teams. In 1973, he graduated from Texas A&M University on a President's Scholarship with a degree in electrical engineering, graduating with honors. As a member of the Corp of Cadets he participated on the award-winning Fish drill team as well as the rifle team for four years.
Following his higher education, Jimmy proudly served in the Army from 1973 to 1977, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was admired for his dedication and service. In 1977, Jimmy embarked on a successful career at Electronic Data Systems as a software developer, where he remained until his retirement in 2005. There he made lifelong friends, Kevin Gardner and David Mashni with whom he shared many adventures. His commitment and expertise made a lasting impact on the company.
Outside of his professional life, Jimmy had a passion for traveling. He explored various destinations, including England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Alaska and the Caribbean. He also had a love for collecting books and coins, often found browsing through used bookstores and junk shops.
In honor of Jimmy's memory, contributions can be made to Hospice of East Texas, a group of wonderful caregivers throughout his last days. The family appreciates their compassionate assistance during this difficult time especially from nurses aid Amy and nurses Tabitha and Lori.
The funeral arrangements are being handled by Cottle Funeral Home, 105 East Bradford Street, Troup, Texas 75789, with Reverend Steven Oakes officiating. Services will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 21. Visitation will be 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, October 20, Burial will be at Union Grove Cemetery, Troup.
Jimmy Lowe will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and dedication will forever be cherished.
