Jimmie Lou Jackson

Jimmie Lou Jackson, 90, passed away on October 5, 2025, at her home surrounded by family and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Funeral Services for Jimmie Lou will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 2 pm, at First Baptist Church Wright City, in Troup, Texas. There will be a visitation for her on Thursday evening at Cottle Pearson Funeral Home, in Overton, Texas from 5 to 7 pm.

Jimmie Lou was born on March 6, 1935, to Mack Robert Mitchell and Viva Lee Renshaw. She grew up in Northern Texas and graduated from Wortham in 1955. That same year, she moved to Dallas. In 1957, she married Howitt Jackson.

Jimmie Lou was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Wright City for 56 years, where she was fondly known as "Ms. J." She was a homemaker and, in 1977, went to work for Overton ISD in the school cafeteria, where she served for 20 years.

Jimmie Lou enjoyed a quiet life filled with simple pleasures. She had a great love for crossword puzzles, books, and watching game shows—her favorite being The Price Is Right. She also loved playing chicken foot (a domino game ) with Teresa Joyce, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howitt Jackson; a son, Richard Jackson; and a grandson, John Wesley Sanders.

Jimmie Lou is survived by her sons: Keith Jackson of Jourdanton and Gary Jackson of Laneville; one daughter, Joyce Jackson of Joinerville; and five grandchildren: Bryan Jackson and his wife, Luzbei, of Jourdanton; Twila Sanders of Joinerville; Daniel Jackson of Longview; Jade Jackson of Laneville; and Faith Sanders of Henderson. She is also survived by her sister, Maxine Goolsby, and several nieces and nephews. Teresa Gist, her niece, whom lived with Jimmie Lou until her passing.

She will be dearly missed by her beloved cats: Mama Kitty and Sunshine.
