Funeral services for John Mogle, 90, of Tyler and formerly of Troup, are set for 10:00 am, Friday, July 2, 2021, at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
He died June 28, 2021, in Tyler, and will be buried in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup.
John was born April 25, 1931, in Smackover, Arkansas, a 1920’s oil boomtown. He was the fourth of five children Roland and Dora Harvey Mogle.
His father worked in the oilfields and the family moved frequently while he was growing up, before eventually settling in Texarkana, Texas.
He graduated from Texas High School and served in the Navy before marrying the love of his life, Christine Harden, of Atlanta, Texas. They married on March 25, 1955, in Texarkana.
Together they raised two children, Larry and Ellen Thompson, from Christine’s first marriage and had two children together, Danny and David Mogle.
In 1961, they moved from Cass County Texas in far northeast Texas to a brick home between Whitehouse and Troup, where they lived for more than 50 years.
An avid and skilled golfer, John was a longtime member of Hilltop Country Club in Troup. John and Chris often took golfing adventures with friends. They worshipped God many years at the Presbyterian Church in Troup, where John was a deacon.
More recently John and Chris lived at Rosewood Estates in Tyler.
John was preceded in death by his siblings, Roland Mogle, Dona Carpenter, Elnora McKnight, Patricia Fincher, and Harriet Ford; son, Larry Thompson; grandson, Scott Vines.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Christine Mogle of Tyler, children, Ella M. Vines of Pasadena, John D. Mogle, Jr. and wife Melanie of Tyler, James David Mogle of Tyler; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons.
