Joshua Stuart Campbell, born August 24th, 1984, father of two and dedicated practitioner of the Jedi Force tragically came to an untimely end on June 18th, 2022. He leaves behind his wife Brittany Campbell, daughter (and obvious Gryffindor) Aubrey Campbell, son (and obvious Pterodactyl) Grayson Campbell, his mother Marsha Campbell, sister Julie Campbell, brother Bryan Campbell, niece Morgan Campbell, nephew Riley Campbell, and uncle Mark Germany. He is preceded in death by his father Jack Campbell. In addition, Josh leaves behind a motley family of degenerate friends across Dallas, Sherman, Whitesboro, and the state of Texas.
Josh was born in Sherman Texas, around age 5 moved to Lake Highlands where he spent most of his life, attending high school at Lake Highlands. While he grew in age and stature, his childlike whimsical and VERY mischievous smile never departed. He was quick to laugh, tell you an interesting story about World War II, or argue about the specific dimensions of the Death Star (no really, he would). Josh aspired to be a culinary savant and achieved this with a great many dishes. While he could smoke, grill, and fry with the best of them, he never could get his steaks quite right as they were always just a bit overdone. He wouldn’t admit that of course, but if you ever had one, you know it’s true. Josh dispensed wisdom, kindness, and terrible jokes as he befriended a countless number over the years as a central member of Dallas’ bar scene. He started at 17 at Slip Inn, and his name was known (mostly for positive reasons) in many saloons strewn about Knox-Henderson. His drinks were strong, and his work ethic stronger. While the city was his home, he had the heart of a rancher. He was a natural with working cattle and did not flinch at the grueling hours of hard labor in the unbearable heat of Texas.
Josh had his faults, but complaints about hard work was not one. When he was 7 years old, he selflessly mowed the yard of a neighbor without being asked, simply to help. If you were ever in the incredibly unique circumstances of needing a trivia team member specifically for World War Generals, planes, and boats, Josh was undoubtedly your ringer. And if you ever wanted terrible advice on a team to place a bet, Josh was also your guy, unless you needed some inside scoop or analysis on NASCAR. Finally, if you ever needed to make a quick trip to the grocery store, you didn’t take Josh along, because he would, without fail, find some stranger to talk to and befriend. Josh’s absence is felt by so many, and while his story has come to an end none of us wanted – we are here to fill in some of the details of that story with our own unique experiences of this generous and kind person. He was a dad. He was a husband. He was a friend.
He was a son. He was loved and loved in return. He was a sound tech for Martin’s Chapel Nazarene Church. He was a hunter and fisher. He was a terrible gardener and handyman. He was a history buff. He was a so-so video game player. He was respectful and kind. He would help anyone without expecting anything in return. He was a collector of Star Wars memorabilia and attached great sentimental value to objects. He was Joshua Campbell, and we are all going to miss him in ways we don’t even understand and haven’t unraveled yet. Josh, enjoy sitting on the deck in heaven with Jack, we will join you someday down the road.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, Saturday, Prior to the service. Funeral will be 11 am, Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
