Juanita Schafner Obituary

Juanita “Janie” Schafner passed away at the age of 55 on February 22, 2021 at CHRISTUS Good Shepherd in Longview, Texas.  She died after a valiant battle with liver cancer alongside her sisters Judy and Janice, who never left her side both in life and in her eventual death.  She was surrounded by her loved ones until the very end.

If joy had a sound, it would be Janie’s laugh.  It was a rumbling laugh that always found its way into the hearts around her.  When she laughed, you smiled … period.  You could not help it.  The “Janie” laugh will be remembered forever.  Janie was a free spirit that never backed down from a challenge or an adventure.  If you were with Janie, you were making a memory.  Janie squeezed experiences from everyday life like a normal person would squeeze juice from an orange.  She truly lived life to the fullest.  Janie did everything with an intensity that could not be denied.  She loved hard.  She laughed hard.  She fought hard.  Her firecracker personality was always bold, never muted.  If you ever met Janie, you did not have the ability to forget her.  Janie will be missed, and undeniably never forgotten, forever.

Janie was born June 3, 1965, in Caddo, Louisiana to Lewis Johnson and Katheryn Ann Stevens. Survivors include her son, Joshua Schafner; daughter, Sammie Nicole Robey; mother, Kathryn Stevens; brothers, James Johnson, Ricky Sawyer, and Lewis Johnson; and sisters, Lisa Hierholzer, Judy Johnson, Janice Johnson, and Carrie Johnson.  She was preceded in death by her father Lewis Johnson Sr.; brothers, “Joey” Jerome Johnson and Jimmy John Johnson; and sisters, Matilda Johnson, and “Pat” Johnson.
