Judy Sandifer Obituary

The family of Judy Sandifer, age 78, of Tyler, will celebrate her life at 11 am, Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Cottle Funeral Home in Troup, Texas. Visitation will be at 10 am, one hour prior to the service.

Judy was loved by all who knew her. She trusted everyone and made friends easily, which served her well since she was always looking for someone to fish with, gamble with, and in her later years, puzzle people.

She was the youngest of 8 kids, and she remained close to all of them even as they were scattered across several states.

Never one to sit idle, she was always doing something, working in her yard, or just drinking coffee with family or friends. She was always up for card games and trips to Illinois during mushroom season.

She was a hard worker and spent many years working in factories in Illinois, Texas, and Louisiana.

She was a very determined woman or stubborn as most would say. She didn’t let stage 3 cancer beat her in 2011 or again in 2020.

She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely and will likely be the most missed woman ever.

Judy was born in Danville, Illinois on January 20, 1945, to Dan and Nellie Jenkins Schlunaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Jerry Schlunaker, Tom Schlunaker, and Bob Schlunaker, two sisters, Marlene Scott and Sue Hoffman, daughter-in-law, Anastasia Hillard, stepdaughter, Shelia Donovan, stepson, Patrick Sandifer, and ex-husband Joe Sandifer.

She leaves behind her two children, daughter, Sherry Thornton and son Phil Hillard both of Tyler; ex-husband and life-long friend, Phillip Hillard, Sr. of Tyler;  her grandchildren, Cody Thornton, John Thornton, Jennifer Thornton all of Tyler, and Kaci Graham of Dallas.; her sister, Linda Onley of Tyler; brother, Larry Schlunaker of Danville, IL; many nieces and nephews; her stepchildren who she loved greatly, Angie Elliott of Kilgore, Stephanie Tull of Tyler, and Mickey Sandifer of Louisiana; and all their kids and grandkids.

Pallbearers will be Phil Hillard, Jr., Cody Thornton, Kobe Onley, Mike Onley, Richie Hillard, and Keaton Hillard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be John Thornton, Mickey Sandifer, and John Greenlee.
