Margaret Jean Stephens went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2023, in Tyler, Texas. She was born September 24, 1926, in Rockdale, Texas to Leslie E. and Bertie Mae (Bow) Palmer.
Margaret attended Kindergarten in Overton and moved to Taylor for first and second grade. By third grade she was back in Overton schools and stayed till she graduated in 1944. She finished her formal education with a year at Kilgore College.
At different times Margaret worked for Merrett Tool, Gulf Oil and Secretary to the Overton ISD superintendent. For three years, she also owned and operated the Carnival Hour Craft Shot in Overton.
Margaret was an avid golfer and organized the first Ladies Golf Association at Troup serving as the president for two years. For four years she was president of the Laird Hill Country Club Ladies Golf Association. Her accomplishments include winning the Women’s Club Championship at Laird Hill Country Club and Overton Golf Course. In later years she devoted her time to her four great - grandchildren.
In 1957, Margaret married Glenn Stephens and they remained together till his death, March 13, 2013. Margaret is survived by her son from a previous marriage, Paul Silvey and wife Jane, two grandchildren, Wade Silvey and wife Cindy, Elizabeth Silvey Stewart and husband Brad. There are also four great grandchildren Ashley Stewart, Zachery Stewart, Scott Silvey and Jason Silvey.
Graveside services for Margaret Stephens will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Overton City Cemetery.
