Obituary

Mary Frances Burk, age 99, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was
known to many as “MawMaw”. Mary was born February 5, 1924, in Hartshorne, Oklahoma to James H.
and Minne Mae Jackson. She married Howard Burk, on August 30, 1943, and he preceded her in death in
1992. In 1945, Mary became a member of the Selman City Christian Church, where she not only
remained a member throughout the remainder of her life but also where she raised her children,
grandchildren, and even some of her great-grandchildren. She was the oldest member of her church at
the time of her passing.

Mary loved to care for people and always had a home cure for everything. For many years Mary worked
as a local seamstress, which suited her servant's heart. She was a pristine seamstress who not only used
her talents to provide for her family, create a career, and after retirement, continued to make, and alter
items for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary loved plants and truly had a green thumb.
Mary rarely sat still. In her later years, specifically, Mary enjoyed traveling to see family as well as
traveling to see her great-grandchildren compete and participate in extracurricular activities that they
loved.

Mary is survived by her son, Howard T. “Mike” Burk Jr., and wife Robbye, of Lake Cherokee, her
daughters, Patty Gaut Sanders of Overton and Susan Stevens and husband Rex, of New London. She is
survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, James H. and Minne Mae Jackson, and siblings. All of these
she loved and touched deeply.

Her life will be celebrated Thursday morning July 13th at 10:00 am at Rusk County Memorial Gardens,
with grandson Randy Gaut officiating.
