Mary Janelle (Laughlin) Silvey

Mary Janelle Laughlin Silvey, 86, of Overton, passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2020, at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas. Janelle left this life with complications from diabetes, a disease she had so gracefully fought for years that finally took over in the end.

Private family graveside services will be held at Overton City Cemetery with Reverend Atwell Hankins officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.

Janelle was born in Bartlett, Texas on September 22, 1933, the youngest child of William McClellan Laughlin and Leora Pearl Wright Laughlin.  She moved to Overton, Texas at the age of 3 and was a lifelong resident until her death. A 1951 graduate of Overton High School, she attended Kilgore Junior College and afterwards worked at First State Bank of Overton for several years. On September 23, 1958, she married the love of her life, Leo Silvey, and supported him in the operations of Leo Silvey Chevrolet Company from 1959 until his death in 1979. Janelle enjoyed many family trips to Yellowstone National Park each summer and other travels overseas. She took great pride in her community and was consistently involved in the preservation efforts of her beloved small town of Overton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William, and Pearl Laughlin; her husband, Leo Silvey; her brothers, Eugene Laughlin, Lt. Col. Harlan Laughlin, James David Laughlin, and Estel Laughlin; and her sister, Erline Watson.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Silvey of White Oak; stepson, Paul Silvey and his wife, Jane of Overton; three grandchildren, Courtney Maynard of Tyler, Michael Maynard of Lubbock, and Kathryn Shuttlesworth of Austin; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetic Association, or the City of Overton cemetery fund.
