Maurice “Ben” Edward Johnson, Jr., 77, of Valley View, Texas, went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2023, in Rusk, Texas. He was born March 26, 1945, in Burkburnett, Texas to Maurice Edward Johnson, Sr. and Eva Jean Vaughn Johnson.

Funeral services for Ben Johnson will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, January 30, 2023, at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup, with Jerry Wayne Johnson, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Johnson Family Cemetery, Arp.

He worked as a machinist for many years. He was an avid reader and could read a book and watch TV at the same time. He enjoyed fishing and loved his family with all of his heart.

He is preceded in death by his father, Maurice Edward Johnson, Sr., brother, Jerry Wayne Johnson, Sr., and granddaughter, Melissa Scarborough.

He is survived by his mother, Eva Jean Johnson of Troup, Tx; children, Angela Leger and husband Richard of Rusk, Tx, Tammy Scarborough and Joey of Casper, Wy, Tonya Sweat and husband Wayne of Silsbee, Tx, Michelle Kelly of Liberty, Tx, Christine Marquis and husband Ken of Moss Hill, Tx, Dayton Goodman and wife Catherine of Lumberton, Tx, Misty Whiteley and husband Marshall of Jacksonville, Tx, April Norton and husband Steven of Rusk, Tx, Maurice “B.J.” Edward Johnson, III and wife Jacie of Gainesville, Tx, and Breanna Johnson of Rusk, Tx; sisters, Linda Montgomery and husband Jack of Celina, Tx, Brenda Kenyon of Troup, Tx, and Debbie Mitchell of Troup, Tx.; 43 grandchildren, and 43 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
