Michael "Slick" Howard

James Michael “Slick” Howard, 53, of Troup, passed away on March 8, 2024, in Henderson, Texas. He was born on February 26, 1971, in Tyler, Texas, to James M. and Nancy Jean Garrett Howard.

Funeral services for Michael “Slick” Howard will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 14, 2024, at The Gospel Barn Church, Troup, Texas with Michael Rushing and Steven Oaks officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup, Texas.

Slick was a resident of the Troup community, and he enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandkids were his idols. He was a truck driver for 856 Transport Company. He was a believer in Christ. He loved the outdoors, driving his big truck, fishing and grilling outside. He loved watching John Wayne and always wore his overalls. He will forever be missed by his family and friends. Slick loved life.

Slick is survived by his wife Misty Howard of Troup; 2 children Carlie Howard of Lufkin, and Jared Howard and Alicia of Troup; 3 step-children, Amber Rushing and Nate of Tyler, Jessica Castor and Neil of Whitehouse;  Kelsie Bowins and Tristan of Troup; 3 sisters, Carolyn Warren and husband Tim of Troup, Susan Jackson and husband Mark of West, Cynthia Byrd and husband Anthony of Carlisle; 11 grandchildren, Raven, Paisley, Waylon, Whitley, Brooks, Brantley, Morgan, Rhyder, Kalum, Remmington, and Bexlie;  mother, Nancy Jean Howard of Troup; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Buck and Sherri Rushing of Whitehouse; brother-in-law, Michael Rushing and wife Jana of Troup; Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Slick is preceded in death by his father, James M. Howard, daughter, Rebecca Howard and uncle, Jerry Howard.

Pallbearers will be Greg Booth, Lane Patterson, Jesse Kee, Cory Burns, Randy Fields, Tristan Bowins, Justin Johnson, Les Carpenter, Darrell Cheek, and Roland Adams.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Neil Castor, Anthony Byrd, Larry Terkleson, Drivers & Employees of 856 Transport, and Drivers & Employees of Fields and Womack.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
