Nelda Mitchell

Nelda “Nell” Ledford Mitchell, 84, of Tyler, passed away on March 18, 2025 in Quitman, Texas. She was born on February 17, 1941 in Troup, Texas, to the late Reagan Ledford and Julie Ledford 

Nelda was a resident of the Tyler community.  She graduated from Troup High School in 1959.  Nell married Gene Mitchell on May 30, 1959 and they were married for almost 65 years.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, reading, sitting outside watching hummingbirds and watching Price is Right. She worked in the accounting department at Brookshire’s Dairy for over 31 years. She was a member of Tyland Baptist Church and helped with decorating and kitchen preparation. She will forever be missed by her family and friends.

Nelda is survived by her grandchildren, Julie Wheeler and husband Bryton of Quitman; Jared Neumeyer and wife Haylei of Quitman; son-in-law David Neumeyer of Quitman; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Nelda is preceded in death by her husband Gene Mitchell ,her parents, daughter Lisa Neumeyer, and siblings.


Graveside service for Nelda Mitchell will be at 2pm, Friday March 21, 2025, at Mason Cemetery, Arp, Texas with Reverend Scott Moore officiating. Visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm, Thursday March 20 2025, at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Jared Neumeyer, Bryton Wheeler, Clay Martin, Johnny Johnson, Donald Weeks, and Brad Ledford.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
