Patsy Ruth Herd

Patsy Ruth Herd, 95, a longtime resident of Irene, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, in Bullard, Texas. She was born on February 17, 1929, in Irene, Texas, to the late Byford Winn and Elberta Moore Winn.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Salem Irene Cemetery in Malone, Texas. Philip Greer will officiate, with the assistance of Laura Helm.

Patsy was a proud member of the Irene community and an only child who worked alongside her family at their gas station in Irene. She was an athlete in her youth and played in one of the first girls' Texas state basketball tournaments. On November 23, 1945, she married Charles Herd, and the couple shared 63 years of happiness until his passing.

A dedicated professional, Patsy worked for many years in the Hill County Clerk’s office in Hillsboro, Texas, where she retired. She was known for her independent spirit, strong work ethic, and love of reading. Patsy was an active participant in national and state politics and served as an election official for many years.

Patsy was also an adventurer at heart. She traveled extensively and was always ready for a new experience, including riding her motorcycle across the country.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Herd Willis of Bullard, Texas, and her grandchildren: Phillip Greer and his wife Amy of Buda, Richard Greer of Austin, Laura Willis Helm and her husband Ron Helm of Arp, John Willis of Tyler, Patrick Greer of Dallas, and Leah Willis Borel and her husband Stan Borel of Arp. Patsy was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Richard Herd, and her daughter, Laura Herd Greer.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home in Overton, Texas.
