Richard Hal Mooney, known to his family as “Papa”, passed away peacefully, watching Gun Smoke in the afternoon of March 2nd, 2024, in Tyler, Tx. He was a pillar of his community.
Richard was born in Wilmer, Arkansas, in 1943, at the height of the Second World War, to his father and mother: Lawrence and Irene Mooney, as well as his brothers: Larry and Paul, and his sister: Barbara Pirkl (who are all deceased).
At age 17, he headed the call “Preach my Word” and dedicated the next 62 years of his life to spreading the good news of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. At age 18, he would meet the love of his life, the woman who succeeds him today: Judy Wilburn Mooney.
Together, Richard & Judy raised three children; Chris, Todd and Hope: all of which have children of their own - thus, Richard took the loving mantle of “Papa”.
He committed his life to the study, & preaching, of the word of God. He was a Godly a man, who lived what he preached, and put his own desires secondary to the needs of others.
He enjoyed spending time fishing, watching old westerns, & visiting with his friends & family - particularly about the Bible & the Biblical world.
He is survived by his wife: Judy Mooney, as well as his son and daughter in law; Chris and Debbie Mooney, his second son; Todd Mooney, and his daughter and her husband; Hope and Christian Reagan.
He left a growing legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who survive him as well: Joanna Mooney and Brandon Watson, Ronna and Josh Boyd, Luke and Lauryn Reagan, Grace Reagan, and Ryan and John Thomas Mooney.
His great-grandchildren are as follows: Sawyer, Tucker & Tallulah Boyd (as well as Hudson Boyd, who precedes Richard in death), and finally, Shepherd Mooney and his sister (who should arrive this month); Shiloh Watson.
Visitation services for Richard Mooney will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am, with service to follow at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Voice of Deliverance Church, Whitehouse, Texas.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
