Roger McElroy went to be with Jesus on June 14, 2025. He was born April 19, 1940. He was a member of Martin’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene for 59 years and he was “Candy Man” for 42 years because of his love for children. He worked for Brown & Root for 35 years. He was a graduate of Carlisle High School, class of 1958. His favorite past-time was playing dominos and having family over every Saturday night.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Bessie McElroy brothers Gerald, Tucker, and Darrell McElroy sister Mae Gean Pettit, and Billie Rix. He is survived by his loving wife Murel, of 61 years, his daughter, Nechelle and son Blake; and one sister, Marie “Dink” Lanham of Arp; Numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup, Texas.
Funeral services for Roger McElroy will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Martin’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene, Troup, Texas with Pastor David Baker officiating. Burial will be at Henry’s Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Casey McElroy, Scott Florey, Paul Hamilton, Mark Nichols, Tom O’Steen, Clay Cannon, Steve Martin, and Chance Waggoner. Honorary pallbearers will be Pug Keys, Wayne Martin, Kenneth Martin, Junior Hamilton, John Stewart and Steve Hukill.
Special thanks extended to Three Oaks Hospice and nurse Cassie Elias.
