Sharon Hamilton Obituary

On February 2, 2022, at the age of 94, Sharon Miracle Hamilton was carried by the angels into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Sharon, and her twin brother Garon, was born on January 16, 1928, in Shreveport, Louisiana., to John Herbert Miracle and Berniece Elza Miracle.  Sharon spent most of her young years in Shreveport, graduating from Byrd High School and Centenary College.  While in college, she participated in band and athletics and was also a member of Chi Omega Sorority.  While working in Shreveport after college, she met the love of her life and future husband, Dr. James M. Hamilton.  They were married on March 14, 1953, and spent 66 wonderful and happy years together.  Sharon and Jim moved to Overton, Texas in 1957 where he established his medical practice.  Sharon, having accepted Christ at an early age, began a long and active ministry in church service by teaching Sunday School, leading youth choirs, and singing in the adult choir herself.  Always a student of the Bible, she completed many courses of study over several decades in Biblical theology, doctrines, and history.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, Jasper, Texas, and a former member at First Baptist Church, Overton, Texas.  Sharon’s most meaningful accomplishment was the writing of a year-long devotional book describing how God had transformed and blessed her life.  She only completed six months’ worth of devotionals as dementia robbed her of the ability to complete the book.  The driving force in her life was the constant desire to serve Christ and share the Gospel with those who did not know Him.  She was always ready in season and out of season to witness to the lost.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, twin brother, and her husband.  Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dr. James M. Hamilton, Jr., and wife Pam of Jasper, Texas, her daughter, Kristen Stokes and husband Dyle of Chatham, IL; 5 grandchildren, Lauren Bean and husband Ira, Rachel Gaulding, and husband Alan, Trent Stokes and wife Britney, Sydney Stokes, and Logan Stokes; 6 great-grandchildren, Ella Powell, John Gaulding, Daniel Gaulding, Vivian Gaulding, Ira Bean V, and Gavin Stokes.

Pallbearers are Vernon Brown, Ira Bean IV, Alan Gaulding, Dyle Stokes, Logan Stokes, Dennis May, and Tommy Utzman.
