Shirley Marie Burgins

Shirley Marie Burgins, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 30th, 2023, after a long battle with dementia. Her final moments were spent full of love in her home, surrounded by family. Shirley was born on March 22, 1938, to Sally and William Miller. She married the love of her life, Virgil (Dugie) Burgins, on July 3rd, 1954. She was the beloved mother of Larry and his wife Linda of Arp, TX; Randy of Arp, TX; Pam and her husband Brad of Arp, TX; Vicki of San Antonio, TX. She was the loving sister to William, Sister-in-law to Mary, and the very proud grandmother to 14 grandkids and 28 great-grandkids, aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, and “Granny” to many others that loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Sally and William, sister Nettie, brother Jesse, and daughter-in-law Penny. All who loved her will never forget her tenacity, feisty spirit, charm, grace, and undying love for them. She loved hard and spent her years full of laughter and fun. At the young age of 16, Shirley met Dugie and fell head over heels. They centered their love in Christ through an amazing 68 years of marriage. Even in her last days, you would catch Granny chasing him around the house for a kiss to start her day.

 Shirley had the biggest heart and the most beautiful smile. For many years she served as a Licensed Nurse and her passion for care touched many patients and their families' lives. She was a lifelong member of the Church of God, and we know Heaven was rejoicing when she walked through the pearly gates to meet her Father. Shirley accomplished many things in her life but her greatest joy was her role as Mom to her four kids. She was the wind beneath their wings and will be missed until we all meet again.
