Shirley Honeycutt Obituary

Shirley Skipper Honeycutt, 89, of Kilgore, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025. She was born on November 22, 1935, in San Augustine, Texas, to Jim and Lois Skipper.

Visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the First Methodist Church of Overton, Texas. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m., with interment immediately afterward at Rusk County Memorial Gardens in Henderson, Texas.

Shirley worked for many years as an administrative assistant and was deeply involved in her community. She served with the Overton Chamber of Commerce, the Overton ISD Board, the Overton Hospital Board, and the Rusk County Heart Association. She also contributed her time to the Overton Little League Baseball Association, the Overton Cub Scouts, and the Overton PTA, and she served as Chairman of the March of Dimes in Overton.

A devoted member of the First Methodist Church of Overton, Shirley served on various church boards and committees throughout her life. She also served as Sunday School Superintendent and taught both elementary and high school classes, faithfully investing in the spiritual growth of younger generations.

Known for her civic spirit, Shirley found great joy in cooking, socializing, and contributing to school events, parades, and community celebrations. Her dedication, leadership, and warmth left a lasting impact on those who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Skipper Honeycutt and his wife Terry of Overton; her granddaughter, Holly McKinney and husband Kevin; her great-grandson, Jude Fisher; her sister, Carolyn Box and husband Buddy; and her special companion, Don Parish. She will also be remembered by a host of nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Buddy Honeycutt, and her parents, Jim and Lois Skipper and her sisters, Merle Davis, Maxie Barbay, and Jimmie Boozer.

The service will be officiated by Fred Parsons. Music will be provided by pianist Jody Philley and soloist Roselyn Parsons.

Shirley will be remembered for her generous heart, her tireless service to the community she loved, her faith in God and the joy she brought to her family and friends.
