Simon "Roberto" Salinas

Simon Salinas Olvera gained his wings and freedom from pain on July 1, 2022. He was lovingly referred to as Roberto, Guero, Papi, and Abuelito by his friends and family.

He lived in Troup since 1978 and upon his arrival he was blessed with an extended family in Mama Wanda and Papa Mike, for whom he cared and loved as his own parents. They cared for him after a life-threatening condition after only a month of knowing him and helped to nurse him back to health. Later, with their help and support he was able to bring his family in 1980 and the family relationship continued to flourish. He was blessed with 47 years of marriage to his loving wife Anastacia, and together they started a legacy of first-generation graduates in high school and college.

Simon is survived by his wife, Anastacia Lopez Salinas; children, Rita Salinas, Simon Salinas and wife Erika Lezama, Suspiro Perez and husband Ramon Perez, Wanda Salinas and husband Antonio Hernandez, Maricarmen Salinas, and Gerardo Salinas and wife Rosario Acosta; and grandchildren, Jesus, Alondra, Julian, Gaby, Ivan, Michael, Dillion, Jason, Mixel, Lorenzo, and Enrique, Jr.

 He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, these include teachers and business owners. Roberto, was known for always having a smile to those he would see at Steele’s, Brookshire’s, or at the four way. Stranger or friend, it did not matter, he was always willing to help even if it meant spending the last hundred dollars in his pocket to make sure someone made it to their destination or had the help they needed. He helped hundreds of immigrants by providing shelter and food to as many as he could. His words were always, “Money comes and goes, and God will send me his blessings.” He has earned his blessing and his reward of eternal celebration and will live in the memories, hearts, and the lives of his family.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
