Thomas Henry Hoilman, Sr.

Thomas Henry Hoilman, 84, beloved brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and friend,
passed away peacefully on September 13, 2022 in Tyler, Texas.
Raised in a military family, Tom grew up in many places–Georgia, Florida, Puerto Rico,
Nevada, France, and Germany. After joining the Air Force, he continued this pattern,
living in Texas, Japan, and Arizona. An intellectual at heart, his travels and his love of
learning made Tom a repository for all kinds of interesting facts about cultures, history,
politics, and languages. He expressed his own brand of hopefulness about life through
his experimental gardening and his care for stray animals. He was also deeply religious,
with spiritual values that led him to be lavish with material goods, giving food, clothing,
furniture and money to those in need, as well as generous with his time, spending hours
serving the sacrament to the home-bound and praying for his family and the world.
A devoted genealogist and great lover of family, Thomas is survived by sister and
brother-in-law Linda and Daniel Duboise, his brother-in-law James Robert Smith, five
children: Thomas Jr., Jennie Ann, Mary, Joseph, and Robert, five grandchildren: Dillon,
Kashay, Joshua, Emma, and Ava, as well as his son-in-law Jeffrey Hammerbacher, and
his daughter-in-law Eleni Macaraeg-Hoilman. He was preceded in death by his father
Thomas Herring, his mother Martha Hoilman, his adopted father Roy Hoilman, his
brother William, his sister Carol Ann, and his beloved wife of 55 years, Jennie (Smith)
Hoilman.
The family will celebrate Tom’s noteworthy life on Monday, September 19, 2022 at Our
Lady Queen of Angels in Overton, Texas with the Visitation at 12:00pm, the Rosary at
1:00pm, and the Service at 2:00pm. The burial will follow at Mason Cemetery.
