Thomas "Tom" Scott Gay

Funeral services for Thomas “Tom” Scott Gay, will be 11:00 am, Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup, Texas with Pastor Charles Williams officiating.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, prior to the service.

Tom was born June 26, 1951, in Lufkin, Texas and went to be with Jesus on March 24, 2026 in Rockdale, Texas.

Tom was a CPA in Whitehouse and Troup for many years where he made many lifelong friends. He was proud to serve as a volunteer firefighter and on the school board. Tom had a love for nature, trees, hunting, riding horses, and spending time in the mountains. Tom enjoyed telling stories, usually long stories, about his experiences, adventures, or something he recently read about. He would regularly check in with his audience during his stories by saying "Okay". ... Which we will always remember. Tom was also very connected and when talking about various topics, he always "knew a guy" and he truly did "know a guy." He never ceased to amaze us with his intellect. To quote a life-long friend, "Tom was known for being super intelligent with common sense thrown in . Smartest person I've ever known." Tom was thankful for his blessings and would humbly request to say grace before every meal. Tom will be missed by us for many reasons and will live on through our memories. 

He was survived by his life partner, Sheryl Hairston of Rockdale; children, Graham Gay of Rockdale, Courtney Cluley and husband Joey of Mt. Pleasant, and Scott Green of Lufkin; grandchildren, Kate Cluley, MJ Cluley, Olive Cluley, and Austin Green; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and treasured friends.
