Thurman Rex Venable, 94, of Arp, Texas, passed away on June 13, 2021, in Tyler, Texas. He was born June 22, 1926 in Madisonville, Texas to the late Preston and Mary Alice Venable.
Funeral services for Thurman Rex Venable will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel, Overton, Texas with Doctor Reverend Ron Klingsick officiating. Burial will follow at New Energy Cemetery near Crockett.
Visitation will be 10:00 am - 11:00 am. Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
He was married to the love of his life Doris Venable for 72 years. He was a graduate of Madisonville High School. He worked as a car inspector for Sothern Pacific Railroad and retired in 1975. He raised cattle, loved to garden, and loved to raise his honeybees. He was a member and Deacon of the Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a very loving Uncle who enjoyed making kids happy. He coached youth football and basketball, taught Sunday School class for the youth and had a special love for ministry to senior adults. He was a very devout Christian man who loved the Lord.
Preceded in death by daughter, Susan Johnson; brothers, Loftin Venable, Jim Venable, Hubert Venable, and Thurston Venable; sisters, Geneva Potter, Nova Jean Thompson, and Billie Whitley.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Venable of Arp; son, David Venable of Arp; 5 grandchildren, Amber Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Jordyn Johnson, Brandon Venable, and Stephen Venable; and 4 great grandchildren, Allene Rexanne Johnson, Landon Johnson, Luke Johnson and Jase Johnson.
Pallbearers are Mark Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Norman Powell, John Lanhan, Joe Sumy, and Nolan Calicutt.
Honorary pallbearers are Fudgers Sunday School Class.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
