Services for Vernon Joe Daily, 82, of Arp, Texas will be held on Wednesday, May 28,
2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton, Texas with Clayton
White officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the
funeral home. Private family burial will follow.
Joe passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, Texas
surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 16,1942 in Hillsboro, Texas, to the
late Stephen Ellis Daily and Annie Lucille Sampson Daily. He was a 1960 graduate of
Troup High School.
On July 14, 1961, Joe married the love of his life, Linda Sue Cloke. Together they built a
wonderful life and raised four children. Joe was a devoted son, husband, father,
grandfather, and uncle. He cherished his family more than anything else.
Joe worked for over 35 years for Tyler Packing Company as a butcher and later worked
for Motor Trike for 10 years. He was incredibly talented and self- taught in many areas
including mechanics, carpentry, and welding. Joe took pride in raising a large garden
which always produced the best fruits and vegetables in East Texas. He also enjoyed
hunting and fishing, playing forty-two and spending time “piddling” out in his shop.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers Jerome Daily,
Howard Daily, Nolin Daily, Harlan Daily, Virgel Daily, and sisters Mona Daily Gatewood,
Vivian Daily Thrash, and Reta Daily.
Joe leaves behind his wife of nearly 64 years, Linda; two daughters Connie Brown and
husband Vernon of Overton, Vicky Calicutt and husband Johnny of Overton; two sons
Tracy Daily and wife Sherry of Arp, Ronnie Daily and wife Debra of Troup; sister Gail
Raybourn of Liberty City; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great,
great grandchild; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Carpenter, Kasey McClendon, Jacob Daily, Justin Daily,
Joeseph Daily, and Caleb Holcomb.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle Pearson Funeral Home, Overton, Texas.
