Funeral services for Vernon Dalhart Rivers Jr., 72, of Tyler are scheduled for Monday, October 21, 2024, at 10:00 am at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel in Overton, Texas with Reverend Phillip Solomon and Casey Rivers officiating. Interment will follow at Elkins Cemetery in Omen, Texas. The visitation will be Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
Vernon Dalhart Rivers Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Vernon was born April 30, 1952, to Vernon Sr. and Reba Rivers in Dallas, Texas. He attended Arp High School in Arp, Texas. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country. He married Cynthia Ann Cain on June 15, 1973, in Irving, Oklahoma. He was a master carpenter and patternmaker for Tyler Pipe for 26 years. Vernon loved spending his days with family and friends. He spent many days and nights volunteering for his local community and school district. His warm heart touched the lives of all that knew him.
Vernon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Cindy, his parents, his father-in-law, Robert Cain, and mother-in-law, Juvene Cain. He is survived by sons Johnny Rivers and wife Melinda of Stonewall, Mississippi, Jamie Rivers and wife Whitney of Tyler, Texas, and Robert Rivers and wife Melanie also of Tyler; grandchildren Lindsey Sosebee, Nick Howell, Chance Rivers, Bethany Young, Kristen Rivers, Emily Rivers, Walker Rivers, and Jameson Rivers; 7 great-grandchildren, sisters Janette Reynolds and husband Jim of Fort Worth, Texas and Darlene Moore and husband Steven of Tyler, Texas; brothers Richard Rivers and wife Casey of Tyler, Texas and Roger Rivers and wife Kim of Tyler, Texas; Natalie Bowles; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Steven Moore, Rocky Rivers, Kevin Moore, Jeremy Moore, Andy Reynolds, Matt Reynolds, Aaron Reynolds, Jacob Reynolds, Kenneth Solomon, and Dan Modesto.
