Wendell Nichols Obituary

Wendell Wayne Nichols, 56, of Arp, passed away on December 27, 2024, in Tyler, Texas. He was born on February 20, 1968, in Channel View, Texas, to Charles Lee and Johnny Louella Mitchell Nichols.

A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 11th, 2025, at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup, Texas, with Mark Crawford officiating.

Wendell was a resident of the Arp community since he & his wife moved to the area this summer. Being on the farm was one of his greatest joys and he loved every second that he got to spend there. Zipping around on the zero-turn mower and helping with the other chores was the highlight of his time at home.

Wendell was known to get himself into some trouble in his younger years but that paved the way for his love for Christ. He may not have always walked “the straight and narrow” but he made sure to work hard and push his way to Jesus. He recently shared his desire to be baptized and made the public gesture of his love and dedication in his relationship with the Lord. He was baptized on the farm on November 29th, 2024, and was able to share that testimony with everyone around him.

Wendell had the biggest heart and never met a stranger. His desire to help others with no regard for himself was unmatched. He enjoyed his job with heavy machinery & got to live the dream that every little boy has; to play with big toys. When he wasn’t working, he loved spending time with his family. He will forever be missed by all those that loved him.

Wendell is survived by his wife Shannon Nichols; father Charles Nichols & wife Betty; son, Matthew Nichols; stepchildren, Ashley Crawford and husband Brandon, Michael Fox and wife Ashley; sister and brother-in-law Becky and Monty Thomason; 12 grandchildren, 3 Nephews, 2 Nieces, and 3 great nieces.

Wendell is preceded in death by his mother Johnnie Louella Mitchell Nichols, brother Darrell Nichols, and sister-in-law Staci Alece Harlan-Criswell.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
