Memorial services for Wiley V. Davis, 85, Troup, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, October 30, at the First Baptist Church, Troup, with Chaplain Eddie Secrest officiating.
Mr. Davis died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at his residence. He was born April 13, 1925, in Gainesville, to the late Wiley Valentine and Stella Marie White Davis. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S.S. Batfish. During the Korean War, he began his service in the U.S. Air Force as a Russian language specialist, retiring in 1967.
He founded the Submarine Veterans of World War II's chapter in Tyler and was its first president. He also served as the editor of the group's monthly newsletter, the Scuttlebutt, and as the editor of the state's Submarine Veterans of World War II quarterly newspaper.
He was construction supervisor for Gulf Coast Cooling Tower Service, Overton.
Mr. Davis served as Troup City Councilman for three terms from 1995 through 1998, and as Mayor from 1998 through 2002, and thereafter was active in voluntarily maintaining Troup parks.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Brigitte 'Getta' Stoeckel Davis, a brother, Clyde Davis , and a sister, Elizabeth McCrory.
Survivors include a son, Corky Davis, Hideaway Lake; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Ricky Renson, and Heidi and Melton Wright, all of Troup; two brothers, Lloyd Davis, California and George Davis, Overton; eleven grandchildren and spouses, Christine Renson, Nicholas Renson, Caitlin Renson, Austin Davis, Cameron Davis, Tony and Breezy Davis, Justin and Stormy Dixon, Wesley Wright, Joe and Randi Wright, Jacob and Nicole Wright, and Kariann Wright; three great grandchildren, Brayden Dixon, Blaze Davis and Jarren Wright.
