William Aaron Hicks

William Aaron Hicks, 82, of Gilmer, finished his race on December 31, 2023, in Gilmer, Texas. Bill, as his friends knew him, had a long battle with cancer and frequently reminded it who was boss .He was born on May 18, 1941, in Gainesville, Georgia, to the late Joe and Wilma Stinchcomb. He moved to Texarkana in 1947 when the family vehicle broke down on the way to California.

Bill loved the symphony that a good set of pipes on a Chevy 350 provided. It was a song that he loved. If it had a motor , he had probably raced it. He built and raced Dirt Track cars, Dirt bikes, boats, dragsters, and slot cars, and would go so far as to tease that he could pop a wheelie on a Wall-Mart shopping cart. He loved to garden, game nights , bible study, and spending time with his family.

Bill married the love of his life on November 1, 1975. Their romance had blossomed quickly, and when he first held her hand, she knew everything was right. They taught Sunday school for over 30 years and made a major impact on each child that came through the door. They had one son, Stephen, who came along and brought so much joy to their lives. Along the way, Stephen’s friends were adopted into the family, and Dad loved his ”boys” and even a couple of girls.

Bill is widely known for his faith and faithfulness. He would pray for you in Jesus name anywhere, anytime, for any reason. You didn’t find him anywhere without a gospel tract in his front pocket. He had experienced the goodness of God, and he wanted you to also.

He will forever be missed by his immediate family and so much by his adopted family, ministerial friends, fellow church members, and the many lives he cared enough to touch.

Visitation for Bill Hicks will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Abundant Life Church, Gladewater, Texas, with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Rev.Sammy Draper, Rev.Mike Mcguire, Rev.Mark Whitehead, and Rev. Todd Andrews are officiating.

Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Brenda Hicks ; son, Stephen Hicks and wife Morgan; Sister; Pat Tyree; and Brenda’s siblings, who he counted as his own; Jean Meisner, Barbara Draper,J.D. Browning Jr., Jerry Browning, Sue Barchenger, Linda Herrera, and Kathy Green. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces , and a host of friends.

Bill is preceded by his parents; Joe and Willma Stinchcomb, and Donny Browning.
