Wilma Gregg Obituary

Wilma Laura Gregg, 83, of New London, Texas, passed away on February 18, 2025, at UT Health in Tyler, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born at home on July 12, 1941, to Herbert and Alta Gist in Turnertown, Texas, the oldest of three daughters. Wilma attended New London schools and later retired from Overton State Bank, where she worked at both the Overton and New London locations. A favorite of many customers, Wilma’s friendly nature and excellent service made her a beloved teller.

Funeral arrangements for Wilma Laura Gregg are under the direction of Cottle Pearson Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 6 to 8 pm at Cottle Pearson Funeral Home at 905 South Commerce St, Overton Texas. Wilma's graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 2 pm at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, on 232 FM, south of New London.

On February 15, 1958, Wilma married the love of her life, Clyde Gregg. Their 67-year marriage was filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. They raised three children—Clyde A., Janet, and Gary—and were blessed with five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandsons. Wilma’s family was her greatest joy, and she deeply cherished her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Known for her kind and gentle nature, Wilma was a woman of many interests. She loved reading, Bible studies, and was an accomplished pianist. She enjoyed sewing and creating intricate cross-stitch patterns, and she had a green thumb, growing beautiful flowers. Wilma was passionate about genealogy and kept a meticulous collection of family photos, which she would often share with her loved ones, offering glimpses of past generations. She was always the go-to resource for family history, and many fond memories were made over these stories and photographs.

Wilma enjoyed taking trips, whether it was with her sisters, nieces, or just her family. Some trips became legends in the family, like the time she got separated in New Orleans and managed to call her sister for help, or when she was filming at a John Adams historic site and stood her ground when confronted about recording without permission. Her resilience and sense of humor always shone through.

In addition to her other talents, Wilma was a fabulous cook. She and Clyde worked together to create delicious meals, and their family gatherings were always filled with great food and laughter. Wilma’s pear cobbler with homemade crust was a favorite, often enhanced with a special smoked flavor courtesy of Clyde's smoker.

Wilma’s faith was central to her life. She shared her love for God with everyone she met, often asking about others’ faith during her hospital stays, offering words of encouragement, and sharing her favorite Bible verses. Her belief in God was an anchor throughout her life, and she expressed that love through her actions and interactions with others.

Wilma’s legacy lives on through the family she loved and the many people whose lives she touched. Though she is deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved parents, Herbert and Alta, along with her dear aunts, uncles, and others who preceded her. Wilma has met her Savior face-to-face, and we can only imagine the joy and peace she now feels. One day, we are looking forward to joining her in that eternal home she so warmly welcomed others to.

Wilma is survived by her devoted husband, Clyde; children Clyde A. (and wife, Carol) Gregg, Janet (and husband, Kenneth) Berryhill, and Gary Gregg; grandchildren Wendi (and husband, Beau) Hodges, Rikki (and husband, Steven) Core, Daryl-Anne (and husband, David) McMillan, Levi and Brandon Gregg; great-grandchildren Colt, Lilah, and Duke Hodges, Emylea and Connor Day, Addison Core and Ella Boyington, Meredith and Taylor McMillan; great-great-grandchildren Daylon Clark and Ricky Day; sisters Mary (and husband, John) Stokes, and Francis Fletcher; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is also survived by her cherished miniature dachshund, Penny, who will continue to guard the home, waiting for Wilma’s return.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff at UT Health for their tender and compassionate care during Wilma's final days.
